Road Warriors

The Mets entered this road trip with something to prove. Going into a brief respite against an upcoming difficult schedule, the Mets took 5 out of 6 on these past two series taking 2 of 3 from the Buccos (They should have swept them) and sweeping the lowly Nats capped off by an 8-2 drubbing. The Mets sure seem to know what their doing outside of Shea. The Mets are 38-26 on the road this season, best in the Majors. Beltran especially shows some serious power numbers on the road hitting 17 HRS away from Shea to a mere 7 HRs at home. Since returning from the DL 9 games ago, Beltran has hit 5 hrs and has 13 RBI's. Wright seems to be hitting everything thrown near him recently, (if its not thrown near him he usually walks. Wright is batting over .450 in the month of August and is making a furious run at NL MVP after asserting himself as a true team leader.

Whats the deal with all the injuries? First Endy then Alou, then Gomez then Lo Duca, Castro and the list never seems to end. Well as we got Alou back last week, Easely looks to be out for a while. He suffered a severe ankle sprain trying to stop sliding into second base Saturday Night. Endy has started playing Single A ball and should return back to the team soon. For the time being the mets have brought up Anderson Hernandez. The problem is who will be the Mets right handed bat off the bench. With the 40 man rosters on the horizon the Mets will have to hold on until the the rosters are increased. But the playoffs are a concern, As Marlon, Endy, Gotay all hit better from the left side of the plate. The mets may need to acquire someone off waivers. Jeff Connine maybe?

- Hats off to Jose Reyes for being the first infielder in the history of baseball to steal 60 bases in three consecutive seasons.
- Carlos Beltran has won National League Player of the week.
- Jorge Sosa has been spectacular out of the pen with a 2-0 record and a 1.88 ERA in 14 1/3 inning of relief work.
- El Duque has been spectacular this season. The Mets have won 10 out of his last 11 starts and have been 15-6 in his starts this season.
- Willie needs to stop using Mota especially on the road (he has a 7.89 road ERA). He is making too many mistakes and the Amazins cannot afford any bullpen failures heading into October.

Big Series coming up Padres, Dodgers, Phillies and Braves. Time to show why the Mets have the best record in the NL and the largest division lead in baseball. Its about time.
